A brief summary of the April 2000 RNA steering commitee meeting:
1. The City presented the plans for the upcoming upgrade of the intersections of North Loop at Burnet and at Lamar. The new intersections will include some mediums with trees, etc., left turn lanes, bike lanes, straightening out of jogs on North Loop, etc. The Lamar intersection will be done May 30-August 31, and the Burnet intersection will begin immediately after Lamar is done, to be completed around October 13. There will be detours (traffic in one lane each way) during the work. Efforts to put utilities underground were scrapped as prohibitively expensive.
2. Clare Barry, Place 5 candidate for city council, who lives in the Brentwood neighborhood and worked closely on the plans for the new intersections, made a brief presentation. She indicated that she would focus on neighborhood issues if elected.
3. Ramsey Pool schedule was announced (opening day is Saturday, May 27). The pool will be open till 8 pm weekdays this summer. There will be kiddie swim lessons and youth swim team in June and July. Call city aquatics (476-4521) for schedules and info. I stated that I will be gathering support all summer for pool improvements that are needed to keep the pool operating.
4. Jeff Archer briefly discussed a meeting Joyce Brown and I had with Dr. Brown's representatives regarding 4400 Ramsey.
5. We discussed a possible picnic on opening day of thepool.
6. We discussed the 4th of July Carnival and Parade to be held at Ramsey Park (an annual tradition). Volunteers are being recruited (contact Jeff Archer).
Thanks for your patience. Sorry it took me so long to report on the last meeting. Look for a newsletter later this month. Send Jeff Archer any suggestions for inclusion.
