The Rosedale Ramble
Each spring since 1993, the Rosedale neighborhood has been treated to the Rosedale Ramble, created by Karen Collins and a host of helpers. Each year's Ramble is a collection of historical and interesting facts about homes, events, and people of the neighborhood. The Ramble can be experienced while wandering the route it describes or at leisure in your easy chair!
In the past, the full story of past Rambles has been available for purchase. To find out whether this service is currently available, contact the RNA presidents at the address provided on the Contacts page.

4th of July Celebrations
The Rosedale Neighborhood holds several Independence Day events every year, centered around Ramsey Park.
Children's Parade
|
The annual Children's Parade begins at the NW corner of Ramsey Park at 10am. At 9:30am, all neighborhood children are invited to come to the park and decorate their bikes and wagons with streamers before the the parade begins. |
Watermelon Feast
Everyone is welcome to enjoy watermelon slices! We also welcome donations of watermelon and volunteers to help cut the watermelon to bring to the Park.
Water Balloon Tossing Contest
Imagine two long lines, with contestants paired up, tossing water-filled balloons back and forth! After each toss, the distance between the two lines is increased, increasing the challenge of tossing the balloon gently between the partners. The lines slowly shrink in size as drenched partners laugh over broken balloons. The last pair standing with an intact balloon becomes the new champions!
Kid's Carnival
After the Children's Parade, volunteers set up a carnival with games, crafts, and activities for kids of all ages. Tickets are sold for 25 cents each. All proceeds go to the Ramsey Park Fund for park improvements. The carnival normally funs from about 10:30am to 12:30 pm. Volunteers with an idea for a booth or an interest in helping are always welcome! The activities don't have to be elaborate ... last year's favorite was the fingernail painting booth! We also seek donations of "Happy Meal" type toys to give away at the Duck Pond booth.
Antique Car Show-off
Residents who own motorized vehicles at least 24 years old are invited to shine 'em up and show 'em off during the morning's festivities. These antique vehicles will be parked along the west side of Ramsey Park for viewing, not driven in the parade. We ask that you register your intention to bring a vehicle; we will reserve a display space and print an information sheet about your vehicle. It is great fun to gather the fine old vehicles together for the neighbors to see, hear, and enjoy.
National Night Out
Several blocks in the Rosedale Neighborhood have participated in the "National Night Out". Started in 1984, the purpose of this early August event is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relations, and send a message to criminals, letting them know the community is organized and fighting back. Neighborhoods throughout Austin and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.
During the National Night Out, individual blocks hold events to gather the neighbors and help them get acquainted. Activities planned by individual groups can range from lemonade parties to ice cream socials, cook-outs, and pot luck suppers. The Austin Police Department will provide materials and t-shirts for the hosts.
Caroling in December
The Rosedale Neighborhood's annual Caroling party is normally scheduled for mid to late December. The event is announced through posted signs in the park and around the neighborhood, as well as here on the Rosedale website.
The RNA supplies song books. Volunteers bring their guitars.
We invite everyone to join in the fun by bringing hot chocolate, cookies and a willingness to join in the singing (or at least to listen to the others!!)
